The Big Trains Roll Thorugh Croom Station...
I've stumbled across a wonderful website that is entirely devoted to the Popes Creek Line railroad that runs through Croom Station (Milepost 17.4). I know these blue and gold behemoths pretty well, as about 28 coal trains a week rumble through our crossroads, 14 up and 14 down, half going to the Morgantown Power Plant on the Potomac, half to the Chalk Point Plant on the Patuxent.

The URL is http://www.traingod.railfan.net/. According to its proprietor, this is a shot of one of the boogies from the big derailment in Croom in January 2005. That was quite a mess. I'm the grandson of a Clinchfield engineer and district superintendent, so I don't mind the trains rolling by. What does annoy me is the way CSX allows its ROW to be used a dumping ground, especially by its Maintenance of Way contractors.
